LacednLit's Friday Focus takes a deeper dive into some of the lesser known streetwear brands on the come up. This week we had a chance to spend a few minutes with Jeremy Murray from Bureau DC.
About the Brand
Bureau was established in 2015. The Washington D.C. based skate shop and streetwear brand focuses on blending quality of construction and superior materials to create apparel catered to those who put in the work and still have a passion for play.
Hey Jeremey, what’s the name of the company? Bureau, Bureau DC or The DC Bureau so we get it right?
It's just Bureau. We’re keeping it simple and straight forward.
There isn’t much news about Bureau on the net. Is that an intentional thing? Are you trying to be discrete or just not enough time to get your message out there?
Actually a little of both, I mean we want people to formulate their own opinion of us, so we try to leave it up to them and yeah we are so busy right now many things are in motion.
So let’s talk about the beginning when did Bureau get started?
We’ve been in business for 4 years. We got started with the brand in 2015.
What got you personally interested in skate and streetwear?
A couple friends and me started the brand. I’m a pro skater so I know the business, but we take that humble approach. Not be too into ourselves. Also DC was lacking its own brand, so we decided to fill the void.
What brands did you support back in the day?
I’m more of a fan of styles; traditional clean-cut brands like Huff, Brixton, and Hershel are a few names that come to mind.
What brands do you respect today?
Lot of people doing great things these days. Brands like Palaces, X-Large and Belief NYC and #EverybodySkates I love what Alphonso is doing there. Dude’s a legend.
Is there a signature piece in your collection? Something that put you on the map that you are most proud of?
Our monument graphic is probably what we’re best known for. It’s been a staple for DC natives that want to rep.
So I see wheels, decks, hats, tees and sweatshirts any plans to make other products or you just gonna build these items out.
We’re going to continue to do seasonal releases of our tees, which are really high quality it fit and feel. We really focus on quality and use an original blend which makes them much softer and fit better than most other shirts on the market.
Any changes in the industry that you have noticed?
Yeah for sure. I see a trend of doing one-off shirts where we do a preorder working with a printing partner. It’s the best chance to go viral using IG, Twitter and other platforms to spread the word and share the love. Drop shipping is the future and we’ll be focusing on that for sure.
Anything specific on the horizon for members of the Bureau to get fired up about?
Yeah we have lots coming down the pipeline. Buttery soft tack suits, more T-shirts, polos and pants. We’re really cater to that certain individual. The professional that has to show up for work, but has the freedom to skate during work, after work, just as long as they put in work.
